Fantasy Around the Horn - Week 5

- This blog will be very fantasy football heavy and some roasting will be involved. If you had this blog pegged for a fun, go easy blog, you were mistaken.

Fantasy Around the Horn

We are halfway through the fantasy football season when you look at the trade deadline week 11. So we are going to do a quick "Around the Horn" on all things of: Waivers, Trades, and Keepers. Before we get into the waivers portion of this show, lets take a look a the draft before week 1, and where everyone has landed since then.

Now lets update it to where we are heading into week 6:

- Red X's mean they have missed a minimum 2 games.

- White boxes: WR & RB's that are top 10 in scoring going into week 6, TE's only top 3, and QB's top 5.

Note: I forgot to cross out Jayden Daniels as he has missed two games and I have had to update ^ that picture so many times its no longer allowing me to copy and paste anymore GGs.

Obviously injuries, keepers, and bye weeks play a major factor into the current standings/current rankings so its not the end all be all. But lets breakdown each position and how its going.

Wide Receivers:

Note: I am removing JSN from this conversation as he was kept and would've been drafted top 10/20.

- Out of the first 10 receivers drafted, only 3 remain in the top 10 of scoring.

- The yellow boxes round out the Top 20 scoring on the year thus far. Drake London, Ladd, and AJ Brown were all drafted top 10 and aren't top 20 on scoring (should also note BTJ has been very bad). Harrison, DK, Tet, were drafted top 20 and aren't in top 20 scoring thus far.

- Most shocking to me (not including keepers): WR12 Rome Odunze was 29th off the board, WR13 Michael Pittman was WR 33 off the board, WR14 Kennan allen WR 52 off the board, and finally Quinton Johnston undrafted at WR8 on the year.

Running Backs:

Note: I am removing Bucky Irving from this conversation as he was kept, would have easily been drafted top 15, and also is currently in the top 15.

- They at first appear to be extremely chalky. Looking at the first 15 running backs off the board only 2 are not in the top 15 scoring. I am counting David Montgomery in that top 15 even though he was drafted as the 16th RB off the board because 1.) he was back-to-back with Connor coming off the board and 2.) James Connor is dead and 3.) hes 15th in scoring on the year.

- Derrick Henry and Alvin Kamara were only the 2 top 15 guys drafted not in the top 15. RB 31 off the board and now RB 13 on the year JK Dobbins and RB32 off the board and now RB3 on the year Javontae Williams are in that top 15 to replace them (Chris has both of them).

- Most shocking to me: Obviously Javonte, Dobbins, and Henry. Taking away Bijan and Jacobs were both on bye weeks... Look at the scoring discrepancy for RBs thus far.

Sure the top 15 is still basically the top 15 everything considered, but the standings/points scored of the runningbacks is crazy to me. Barkley being 40 points through 5 games behind Taylor and CMC is crazy for example. Again obviously bye weeks, but Jacobs and Bijan would be interesting to see where they stand also.

Quarter Backs:

Note: I only did top 5 in my original picture because there is a ton of chaos with this position.

- Out of the total 14 drafted QB's only 6 are currently in the top 10 points scored on the year. Obviously injuries with Jayden, Lamar, and Burrow impact this. Other impacts are bye weeks for Jordan Love and Caleb Williams.

Most Shocking to me: Patrick Mahomes being #2 so far throughout the season (I think he still finishes outside the top 10 when Rice gets back). But hand up Alan was right. I think now is also a good time to let you know that I was approached to write an article with a fellow blogger about rather than telling, you should show people. I highlighted a few key lines in the blog.

In honor of said article and the highlighted points. Here is a few things I can show you instead of telling you.

Instead of just standing on my soap box and screaming into the abyss of my loved ones maybe I'll just show them.

Tightends:

- To be quite frank here I am in the market for this position so I won't be doing to much here. All I will say here is that consistency is more important than timing up the big weeks IMO.

Trades:

I have been involved in the only two trades of the year thus far. Just a reminder again, the trade deadline is week 11 meaning we are at the halfway point. But I think the overall conversation needs to be had about the correlation to keepers/value and the timing of when traded. This is all just my opinion so take it or leave it:

- General rule of thumb: The sooner you make trades the more risk/reward you have.

Example: I have been trying to trade for Omarion Hampton for weeks but that dumbass didn't take any of my offers and now Omarion who can't be a keeper and now pretty much useless.

- Keepers have changed the game - If you are one of these bum ass losers:

Why the fuck aren't you going hard for the top keepers right now? (Shout out Cody who traded for Emeka) Your team is 1-4 and over 180 points behind in the PF column 5 weeks in? It can literally only get fucking worse. Your team should be at its best at its peak in weeks 1-4 because of less injuries and no bye weeks. I don't give a flying fuck if you have "okay keepers", go get the fucking cream of the crop and run those 3 miles and pay for my fucking bar tab when your done.

If you are these half ass winning/losing teams:

You have about a 2-3 week window to see what the fuck is up. If the bum ass crew does what they should and go trade everything for the "top keepers" then we maybe to late. If not, take a hard look at your team and really put together a gameplan of how you plan to win and can it be done. If it can't move on and get those keepers.

If you are these winning teams:

I would be trading every "valuable" keeper away for a better player that gives you a chance to win.

Keepers:

I am only going to do this 1 time and 1 time only. Here are my top candidates for top keepers going into next year: I lied I did a cut out of the draft board and a huge type out on it. I am not done trading and will not be giving that info away. The one thing I am going to say and or put in here (shout out Brian) is the rule change. Last year we allowed you to trade picks for the next upcoming year. That quickly got vetoed and labeled "un-fun" which everyone has their right to their opinion. Brian/I were in the camp to keep the rule in place to see where we end up the following year (I even said go full dynasty) but lets track how the people receiving the extra picks did:

Will: had three 2nd round picks, currently 2/3 were straight up busts and complete dogshit with Ladd and AJ. Now Omarion is on IR. Will is 1-4 with the 3rd lowest points for in the league.

Alan: had 3 third round picks. Kamara = dogshit, connor = dead, and Adams is good. Currently in first place with the most points for in the league. Adams isn't the deal breaker as he's WR 15 on the year. It's because he drafted QB 2 on the year, WR 2 on the year, and RB 2 on the year. Currently sits at 4-1.

Kirk: had an extra 1st round pick. To which CD now is injured and missing multiple weeks. His keeper JSN who is WR 4 BTW and drafting is what is carrying him to 3-2 and 4th place.

Brian: Who didn't have a 3rd round pick is currently #2 in the standings, his keeper of Chase Brown has been useless after burrow and Chubba now is maybe going to IR with calf issues.

We will still wait and see the final rewards of trading keepers for future picks but for Brian and I, we currently couldn't be more right.

Waivers

I had another long type up here on how people aren't using waivers how I would. But I am trying to win and go all out so I am not going to say anything on it, rather show you.

5 starters on my team were wavier wire players as I win 2 straight games completely and entirely behind Gainwell's 30+ and now Dowdles 30+. Brian almost beat me because I dropped Kendrick Bourne and he grabbed up Michael Carter.

Just something to think about. Actually I'll say it, if you have more than one fucking tight end on roster at this point with the amount of injuries going around you aren't a serious program. I've grabbed gainwell and dowdle on Sunday before kickoff and won two straight games and unfortunately I had to let Isaiah Likely go. Just to hammer the final nail in the coffin on this point: Kendrick Bourne and Michael Carter 42.5 total points from a sunday morning pickup, put them ahead of: Hockenson, Kelce, Strange who are all rostered on the year. Gainwell's + Dowdle's sunday morning pickup and starts total 63.8 total points would put them at TE 4 on the year. The fact that 17 fucking tight ends are rostered not including: Bowers/Kittle as they are injured is absolutely unjustifiable. End like 25% of my rant. 75% I will keep to myself as its quite literally winning me games.

Rankings and team breakdowns will be out next week. Everyone better pray to fucking god I don't win this week and end up 3-3 because if I do nobody is safe from the wraith that will be coming.
