Fantasy Football Season Review Part: 1

The reason we are doing a "season review" with two weeks left into the season is two fold. First, these are typically in-depth fantasy blogs that I truly enjoy doing but by the numbers you all don't enjoy.
Compared to:

Which to be frank, I don't type these out for numbers rather than 90% creed thoughts and 10% for you. So when doing these deep dives I know I am the one who enjoys it the most as I am a Fantasy lunatic. Secondly, because it can get lengthy I think making it shorter and a quicker read is best for everyone.

So "Part 1" will only include the now non-playoff teams, and part 2 will be at the very end of the year once the season is full concluded. We will be diving into what went right, what went wrong, and what is predicted going into next year (take the predicted portion lightly as a lot will change in 7 months). So lets kick this thing off by evaluating my hot takes going into the year and then we will get into worst to best.

Published on August 8th of 2025:

FINAL PREDICTIONS:

1.) Will

2.) Kirk

3.) Alan

4.) Brian

5.) Dustin

6.) Lukas

7.) Kyle

8.) Chris

9.) Dan

10.) Austin

11.) Cody

12.) Doug

------

Actually maybe my best predicted rankings of all time? I know having Will as the #1 team is crazy after he didn't make the playoffs but I got 5 of the 6 teams in the playoffs correct which means I got 5 out of 6 non-playoffs teams correct also. No cap, all humble aside, holy shit I know fucking ball boys. Maybe try reading these blogs and taking some notes. In Austin's case, learn to read first and then read the blogs and take notes.

To prevent me from screenshotting my entire first blog and stopping me from going to deep into each player at each position I am just going to give you a TLDR from my first blog "Taking Shots". In that first blog I took a screenshot of PFF's PPR rankings going into the year and then had my takes/thoughts next to it. Every # or rank next to each players name was PFF's rankings and my risers/decliners was me basically saying over or under that rank.

Quarterbacks:

Kyle's Risers:
- Kyler Murray #9
- Dak Prescott #10
- Drake Maye #15
- Justin Fields #30

Kyle's Decliners:
- Baker Mayfield #7
- Patrick Mahomes #6

Biggest hot take that hit: Drake Maye
Biggest hot take that missed: Justin Fields

-----------------------------

Running Backs: Because this position was heavily kept, I didn't have many "hot takes" on it.

Kyle's Risers:
I actually had none. I drew a line in the sand around spot 15 and said I don't want anyone below this.

Kyle's Decliners:
- Only player I had "declining" was James Cook. The reason that's in parenthesis is because he was always a must draft but I didn't project him in the top 10.

Biggest hot take that hit: 11/15 RB's I projected top 15 are in the top 15 in scoring.
Biggest hot take that missed: Javontae Williams.

-----------------------------

Wide Receivers: I had a million super hot takes here, so again the TLDR version.

Kyle's Risers:
- Drake London #10
- Tee Higgins #13
- Tyreek Hill #14
- Marvin Harrison #18
- Terry Mclaurin #19
- DK Metcalf #20
- Jameson Williams #21
- DJ Moore #22
- Coutland Sutton #23
- George Pickens #27
- Tetairoa McMillan #29
- Jaylen Waddle #30
- Ricky Pearsall #35
- Emeka Egbuka #43
- Matthew golden #46
- Josh Downs #47

Kyle's Decliners:
- Rashee Rice #38
- Chris Olave #34
- Jordan Addison #37
- Deebo Samuel #38
- Jauan Jannings #39
- Jaylen Reed #40
- Chris Godwin #33
- Cooper Kupp #48
- Rashid Shaheed #52

-Note: Because this is such a deep take list, I will do a couple for each

Biggest hot takes that hit: Sutton top 10, BTJ had out of top 25, Pickens/Lamb inside the top 20, Tee Higgins/Chase inside the top 20.
Biggest hot takes that missed: Puca/Adams both couldn't be in the top 20 scoring. Puca is WR2 and Adams is WR6 on the year.... Matthew Golden being good, DJ Moore being great, and Chris Olave being bad.

-------------

Tight Ends: I literally had no takes other than Kittle, Bowers, and McBride were the only 3 I was "confident" in with McBride being the obvious best. Which anyone would've said so nothing to report. I guess I did say Kelce and Warren would be my crapshoot 4-5th ranked tight end which they are in the top 5 but again I think everyone would've said the same thing so.

Reverse Rankings:

Note: Again going worst to best. I will be comparing what I typed out after the draft but before week 1 to where you ended up and I will be going into the future also.

Austin #12: The man I don't think that can read/reads this. Along with someone either completely checked out this year and has unreasonable expectations when it comes to trading find himself dead last.

Before the year: I hated your draft. I said taking Jeanty over CMC was a huge mistake. I said taking Travis Hunter over Odunze I didn't like. I said taking Tyrone Tracey over Jaylen Warren was a mistake. I said I didn't like Addison and taking Mark Andrews over Cam Skatteboo was a mistake.

During the year: I think it is criminal and I think you need to either care and or truly look at how you value trades. You were out of it (like me) so fast and somehow couldn't find a home for Jeanty/Lamar/Bowers. Brother you have 0 fucking keepers on this roster and are FORCED to keep 2 of them. If we did a 2026 mock draft right now, not one player on your roster is being drafted before round 6-7. I get checking out of a fantasy league, I traded my entire team away and hit waiver wires late etc. But in this format of a league you CANNOT checkout until you have two solid keepers locked up if you want a shot next year. The reason I correctly predicted basically all the playoffs teams and non-playoff teams before the season started is because of keepers (and extra draft picks). I know people tried to trade you (as I was one of them) so either your trade expectations are fucking horrible or you don't care.

Look Forward: Brother you're cooked. I guess this year you will have your 2nd round pick but your keepers looking like DK WR #25 (with a rookie QB next year and Mike Tomlin HC based offense) and Jaxson Dart is fucking horrible.

----------------------

Doug #11 - I didn't give this team the time of day in my opening season blog but I will now.

Before the year: I thought this draft as a troll job. Hated the Judkins pick. Hated the Baker pick. Hated the Kyle Pitts keep and hated the Jerry Juedy Keep.

Note: Austin this is a team you should look at what happens when they keep dog shit players and then have to keep them going into next year.

During the year: Completely wrong on Judkins, he was never suspended and is the real deal. In the same boat as Lukas from the standpoint of having 1474 points for an somehow ending 7-7. I think being in contention for the last playoff spot was a curse. Personally I would've traded Saquon and Wilson regardless if I was even in the fucking playoffs knowing I have 0 chance to win. That being said looking at where I had you to where you ended is better than expected.

Look Forward: Judkins is a great keeper but you really struggle with your 2nd. I know as the Baker believer you're going to keep him. But a Pittman WR #13 went very under the radar and balled out this year. Pittman and Judkins rolling into next year is a pretty solid duo.

-----------------------------------

Cody #10 - Obviously not a good year. Important reminder you didn't have your 1st overall pick so things looked bleak from the jump.

Before the year: Another draft I didn't like at all. I hated the Tucker Kraft pick and didn't like going Josh Allen so early. Didn't like the David Montgomery pick over Treyveon Henderson and obviously hated that you ended the draft with 3 TE's on the roster.

Friendly reminder/Tangent: TE #2 so far on the year is Travis Kelce with 179 points. Travis hasn't missed a game this year. If you counted him as a receiver, he'd be tied at WR 17. Which looks great until you realize, Tee Higgins, Marvin Harrison, CD, Drake London, Rashee, Terry Mclaurin, Nabers, and Godwin have all missed more than 3 games this year. Putting him in the late 20's/early 30's ranking WR's. If you are reading this, maybe instead of drafting 3 Tight Ends, take shot on a WR in the later rounds.

During the year: I know I've recently wrote about how injured Brian's team is. But doing the deep dive, Cody's team is actually maybe the most injured in the league? Eckler was RB1 on the commanders, Mclaurin has missed basically the whole season, Kittle missed half the season, and Tucker Kraft was TE1 and out for the season. Not having your 1st overall pick and that is just a check out season and half. I loved shopping Josh Allan when you knew the season was done, so all the props to you on that.

Look Forward: Walking into next year with Emeka Egbuka and Swift as your keepers looks pretty god damn good. Emeka is a tad worrying but I think Baker is the problem not him.

----------------------------

Dan #9 - 9. Mid year for the boy dealt with Burrow, Chubb, and Tyreek Hill injuries.

Before the year: As a reminder you kinda went 0 RB which as a truther I love. But before the year I had worries about JJ and DJ moore. I said I would've taken CD/Amon Ra over JJ at pick 4. I did not like the Breece Hall pick before James Connor which turns out you were right on. I was out on Chubb/Mason but was in on Pickens/Warren.

During the year: The one thing I have found with going 0 RB which you unintentionally or intentionally did, that is yet to be determined but if you miss on rounds 1 and 2 for receivers your season is immediately in the garbage bin. So DJ Moore (keeper), JJ, and Tyreek being the biggest busts of all time you basically can't come back from that. I know people reached out to you for trades, and I don't know what those trade talks were like. But you chose to not make any moves like trading JJ/Dak/Burrow and improve your keeper options which I think may bite you in the ass.

Look Forward: This is where the biting of the ass comes into play. Personally I think a couple weeks back you banked on auto keeping Warren and Pickens. Which a few weeks back were 100% auto keeps and two of the best rolling into next year. But things change. Pickens (ask Dustin/Austin) is literally in fucking spiral and going full bad Pickens currently. Warren doesn't have a QB that can get him the ball and Daniel Jones, if that is there guy going forwards, may not be back for the start of the 2026 season.

--------------------------

Kyle #8 - I guess part of knowing ball is a curse and a blessing.

Before the year: Chris this is the part I know you won't read this at all but will scroll down to your team (which isn't in this blog) get mad at were I ranked you, and then makes a little snarky text message. I knew going in that drafting a 20 year old roster was at best case scenario, one of the last teams in the playoffs, and worst case some solid keepers for next year.

During the year: Honestly I got lost in my own sauce. I should've stuck to the script and just ran with it. The Josh Allen trade for me wasn't worth it. I don't know what my team would've looked like had I still made the move for Rashee, but losing: Emeka, Tet Mcmillan, Cam Skatt, and Pearsall in an attempt to make the playoffs was straight up fucking stupid. These deep dives help me look back on the year and things I would've done differently. Next year I will make the correct choice I promise.

Look Forward: Similarly to Dan, I sold my entire team for Rashee. Which even with the Mahomes injury I think still will be great. Rashee would be a top 5 WR this year had he played all year and or is on pace for that. Maybe Alan can explain it to me, but Treyveon still not being the solidified #1 back at the Pats is mind boggling. Michael Wilson is actually the real deal but the Cardinals are a shit show going into this offseason with Murray/the coaching staff whom I think will be fired. Lastly, Aiyuk just being the biggest dickhead of all time and forcing himself out of the 49ers who maybe the fucking #1 seed heading into the NFC playoffs is an auto swing and miss keeper candidate. Whoever voted no on if Aiyuk a good keeper going into next year was right.

----------------------

Will #7 - I think could possibly have learned the most about fantasy football if he actually wanted to.

Before the year: My #1 ranked team heading into the season. I loved every aspect of your draft but two simple and what I thought to be small things. Turns out those two small things are a fucking massive part of why you aren't in the playoffs balling right now. I was going to copy and paste my entire entry on your team heading into the year but the TLDR is: Should've drafted Pickens over Rice and drafted Njoku/Tyler Warren over Joe Mixon. I typed "I think you got too cute in rounds 4-5".

During the year: Straight up if you draft Pickens over Rashee you're in the playoffs. Imagine Warren over Mixon also.... I love the fact you made moves and tried to get into the playoffs. For that I will never hate. I will hate on the moves you may have made, but never the fact you chose to do so. I think the trade with me was a massive win when it comes to getting the playoffs this year. On the flip side, I don't think you did nearly enough. Trading for an injured player (MHJ) and giving up an active player (AJ Brown) as your making your playoff push is an automatic don't fucking do. Sitting with 5 very well and capable starting RB's on your roster when you have 0.0% WR help or depth I think is criminal. You have to shop one or multiple Dowdle, Walker, and Hampton as you literally cannot start them all.

Look Forward: I love the fact you have 4 players that you can keep that will give you a good/great head start going into next years draft. Dowdle, Skatt, Pearsall, and MHJ are solid IMO. I do think these players have low ceilings (Dowdle/Pearsall) but super high floors (skatt/MHJ).

Last QB hating segment hating type up in my blogging career.

This will be the last time on gods green earth I will talk/type about my CORRECT fantasy football QB take. I have screamed about this for 5 years now. It will be my last time doing so. I think its important for everyone and anyone who gives any sort of fuck to learn from their mistakes year after year. Lets use my mistakes for example: 0 RB is almost impossible in a 12 man league and don't switch up your thoughts on your team week to week. My team wasn't going to win this year but I made changes that weakened my keepers going forward and I still sucked and I regret it now.

The reason I am putting this QB segment here, is because I think my next two team owners (Alan/Dustin) share the same polar opposite take than what I have.

Drafting a QB in rounds 1-3 if you like the Josh Allen, Hurts (maybe), Lamar, and Jayden (maybe) I can be talked into. But when any one of you draft a QB rounds 4-8 you actually sacrifice maybe more than the teams drafting one rounds 1-3. Kyle why do you say more? Because 1-3 you know what you are giving up but you're drafting a guy regardless of how he plays will be your starter. What you give up "just filling your roster because you don't need any other starters" is depth. Depth is what wins you the league. We see it every year. Imagine instead of wasting the 5th round or 8th round pick on a guy who won't even be starting for when you need him the most. Drake Maye, Stafford, Dak, Caleb were all undrafted! Other than Bo Nix who Lukas kept, nobody remaining the playoffs has the QB they started the year with and or drafted. Its similar to the dumbasses like myself with Aiyuk and or Will with Mixon and Rashee. Honestly I'd even throw Kirk in the same boat had he not been able to keep JSN and have two first rounders.

--------------------------------

Dustin #6: Had the 2-5 start to the year and had the run of a lifetime without a 3rd round pick. Lets get into it.

Before the year: I loved your two keepers Bucky and Tee coming into the year and loved the Zay Flowers pick. I did not like the Achane pick and couldn't have been more wrong. I all CAPSED you on the Justin Herbert pick as I fucking hated it.

During the year: Great run to make the playoffs. Should be talked about for generations. Not having a 3rd round pick but battling was awesome. I am going to really hammer Alan here in about two seconds, but Justin Herbert ended your fantasy year as QB #11 yet a fucking gain.
When you are already down the 3rd round piece to your team you should've never drafted Herbert and punted more like Brian (I'd say even farther than Brian). Like I understand missing on picks like: Copper Kupp in the 5th and Brian Robinson in the 6th, Keon Coleman in the 7th. That happens and I am typing to you as the king of swing and missing. But imagine you didn't take Herbert in the 8th and actually had another shot at a depth piece. Your team lost once I saw Mike Evans was playing and Tee Higgins was out purely because you had nobody that could slot in and even score 10 points. Obviously I am not attributing the 8th round pick of Herbert to you losing, I just think it plays a bigger part than people think.

Look Forward: I think Zay is going to be a just fine keeper going into next year which is by no means a bad thing. You do have a serious problem with your second keeper. Is Jake Ferguson it? Because he hasn't gone over 11 points once in the last 6 weeks. Not horrible but certainly not great.

----------------------------

Alan #5: Probably has gotten the most hate from me this season in regards to fantasy. Well Austin certainly has received the most hate from me this fantasy football season. The difference being you can read this yourself rather Austin has Dustin read it to him. Which is very relatable to you as Isla is getting to the age where she wants you to read to her also. I said this team was super old and I hated the entire draft outside of Amon Ra and JT.

During the year: Lets play a quick game of whose older than age 30 and got injured this season.

Kept: Chris Godwin - missed 8 games this year
3rd Round Pick: Alvin Kamara - missed last 3 games
3rd Round Pick: James Connor - played a total of 3 games
3rd Round Pick: Davantae Adams - just tore his hamstring out for the year (yes this counts)
4th Round Pick: Aaron Jones - missed 4 games this year
5th Round Pick: Patrick Mahomes - Just tore his ACL (yes this counts)
6th Round Pick: David Njoku - Missed 3 games but was banged up all year ask the brownies

I will not entertain that you won the "argument" of Patrick Mahomes being worth a 5th round draft pick as he's QB2 on the year. Lets play a game called which QB would you want to be the fantasy starter on your team:

Option A.): Note the defenses this player played.

Option B.):

If you chose Option A you are correct!! Option A was Jacoby Brissett!!!! Excluding week 10 for Jacoby as Mahomes was on bye week; Jacoby has 124.64 points through 6 weeks and Mahomes has a total of 89.72.

Lets play a quick game of which QB do you start for 1 week of fantasy:

Mahomes vrs Chargers - 15 degrees at kickoff
Stroud vrs Cardinals - in a dome
Trevor Lawerance vrs Jets - 75 degrees and clear skies

Lets play a quick game of QB #2 Patrick Mahomes averaged more points per game than these undrafted QB's:

#3.) Drake Maye: .48 PPG
#4.) Matt Stafford: .48 PPG
#5.) Dak Prescott: .64 PPG
#9.) Caleb Williams: 2.0 PPG

Enough of the picking on Alan. Bottom line is this team ran out of gas/health quickly here down the stretch. Didn't have the depth needed to plug the holes on the sinking ship. I'd like to think that Amon Ra and JT could've carried you there but even if you won this week. JT with no QB and now Adams being out is truly a cya next season angle.

Look Forward: I mean do you just run it back? Like just accept the retirement home and keep a Kamara/Adams? Godwin? This is going to be a hilarious runback scenario and I cannot wait.

Part 2 will come after the finals.
