The world that we sadly live in is one of questioning all news. Is it good, bad, fake, or real nobody knows but its forced upon us like we are a sexy 10/10 minx in the bathroom as the clock strikes midnight on a English landmark in a walking boot. Back in 2019 I was that sexy broad but instead of being forced into that bathroom I took a stand. I said no to that helmetless motorcycle driver and deleted all social media as an attempted escape from that hell of a bathroom.
Speeding time up to the March 2024 and Reddit breaks for a full day in the midst of the heights of the NFLs Free Agency. I suspiciously went into that bathroom and looked in that mirror and said "You've relocated to Houston, you've grown older, you're still a 10/10 rocket, and as a new masseuse, you're already getting Dms from an NFL Qb".
What could go wrong?
So in March I made an account and downloaded "X". I couldn't dare miss a single moment of the NFL free agency. Even though I thought this time was different, I'd unwillingly sir-cum to the predator that is the News and have to accept the be-cuming of just a helpless prey.
Again I ask what could go wrong?
Actually nothing went wrong. I've discovered that the CIA has run the government since 1965 (I can explain JFK, democratic party, Obama, the Bush's, 9/11, Trump assassination), I've discovered how to become a stock market trading genius (trust me GME short squeeze hodl), and I have discovered Rickey who told me the Steelers would complete the trade for Brandon Aiyuk by 8pm tonight!
All that mumbo jumbo aside. Lets get into the current news of the state of our league and then take another step and deep dive into the future of our league.
Editors note: Devon Achane is on the trading block.
Editors note Editors note: This has actually taken the leadership committee weeks of discussion and calls in the hopes that this is the final change we will make for the future.
Old News (going into this year):
Heading into the season the rules are as follows:
1.) You may keep UP TO 2 keepers for this upcoming draft. You do not have to keep 2, rather, you can keep 0,1, or 2.
2.) Keepers going into this upcoming draft count for the round they were drafted in the prior years draft. IE: Devon Achane counts for an 11th round pick and Adam Thielan counts as an 11th round pick.
3.) Keepers that were not drafted last year but picked up on waivers go to their current ADP before this draft. IE: Puka Nuka counts as 1st rounder (currently), Kyren Williams counts as a 2nd rounder (currently), and Tank Dell is currently around rounds 5-7.
4.) You CAN trade players for other keepers, a different spot in draft order, and even draft picks themselves. BUT whatever the trade maybe, you must finish the draft with the required 14 player roster.
-Example: I trade Devon Achane for a 3rd and 4th round pick. I then have to give up 2 draft picks at the end of my draft (because I now have two 3rd and 4th round picks) as I cannot exceed the 14 player roster limit. So that trade would look like Devon Achane + 13/14th for a 3rd and a 4th rounder.
5.) FAAB system is still a go.
New News (going into next year):
Editors note: emphasis on going into next year aka next Augusts draft.
EVERYTHING NOT LISTED BELOW MEANS IT REMAINS THE SAME AND THEIR ARE NO CHANGES TO THAT.
1.) You MUST keep 2 keepers and just like this year, the keepers that are kept count as the round they were drafted in the year prior.
- Keepers CANNOT be kept from the first round or second round.
- Waiver Wire players can be kept BUT they cannot have a first or second round ADP.
- You can only keep a player for 1 year or 2 total seasons (Anyone you keep before our draft here in a few weeks cannot be kept next year).
- You can keep players that were kept before if they were on another team.
2.) Draft order will now go to two separate groups of 6. Bottom 6 will go against each other and top 6 will go against each other to decide future drafting order.
3.) In person drafting from now on is a must (mainly for Oregon people but Alan and Chris have to be on camera/discord).
Q/A Section:
Explain the new changes a bit more clearly to us that effect us next years draft?
You must keep two keepers and they can't be drafted within the two first rounds or if they are waiver pickup, cannot have ADP that puts them into the first two rounds.
Why?
We don't want the cop out of basically the top 1-24 picks just automatically kept year in year out. Mathematically its hard to miss on players in the first and second rounds, but moving into the later rounds where players can have drastically different seasons, should really impact your draft. So we are taking the safety net away of "worst case is I'll keep my first two round players drafted".
Okay that makes a bit more sense, but why only 2 seasons or just 1 "keep" per player?
This has been probably the toughest topic to tackle. The whole goal of these new updates to our league all fall in line with one simply task: more engagement. When you make the draft a higher priority, it should cause more engagement. When a player can only be kept 1 time, you either need to draft better to make sure you have two players to keep for the upcoming year and or trade. Trading away your keepers because you cannot keep them any longer knowing that any player that has been traded can be kept.
Do these changes have any effect in this years draft?
Yes they do a ton actually. Last year we drafted from scratch. So for any of the players you choose to keep this year CANNOT be kept next year period. To try to clarify a bit more, I am currently keeping Achane and Chase. Next year I cannot keep either of them regardless if they are outside of the first two rounds or not. So by the end of the year/offseason, I need to start looking to trade achane for another keeper if I don't have another one or even trade achane and still keep two new players from this years draft, but add a few earlier picks in my draft for him.
This is starting to make sense but if a keeper is traded do they still keep the same drafted round value as a keeper?
Yes, if next year I trade Achane to anyone, that person gets the option to keep Achane as an 11th round pick for themselves. Just a player cannot be kept twice by one manager.

Hopefully that irons out the changes heading into this season and the future. The goal is always going to be for an engaging fantasy football season to keep us connected. As a reminder if you are keeping anyone or keeping two players heading into next year they need to be locked in 3 days before the draft. Any further questions just direct to Brian Owens because he will totally read it, respond to it, and definitely doesn't have a sleeping disorder that causes him to go to sleep at 5:30pm every night and never respond to a text ever.
